We’ve decided to widen the scope of our super spring Short Story competition. As well as our £150 prizes for each of our two categories “Spring” and “Give Back”, we’re now offering a special prize of £80 for the best entry from someone aged 80 or over. We’ll extend the deadline by two weeks to allow more time for judging and give everyone a better chance of prizes!
Our new deadline for entries will be midnight on Monday 14th June.

Autumn Voices is thrilled to be holding a short story competition this Spring!
The competition will run throughout the month of May (now extended by two weeks), and we will accept short story entries from anywhere in the world and from both seasoned and new writers where the rules and eligibility outlined below are followed.
We have two themes: ‘Spring’ and ‘Give Back’. The former might inspire you to write about the season or nature or something you do every Spring, and the latter is our #CLANGERS theme for May and might prompt you to write about caring or community or developing meaningful connections. We’ll be selecting a winner and runner-up for each theme and entrants may submit as many entries as they like for either or both themes.
The prize for each theme winner is £150 and runners-up will each receive a copy of the Autumn Voices book. There is an additional prize of £80 for the best entry from someone over 80!
The competition will close to entries at midnight on 31 May 14th June.
Entry fees
Autumn Voices members:
£5 for the first story and £3 for each story thereafter
Non-members:
£7 for the first story and £4 for each story thereafter
Example: A member submitting 3 short stories would pay £11 to enter (£5 for the first story and £3 each for the other two) and a non-member would pay £15 for the same number of entries.

Our judge
We’re delighted to let you know that the wonderful Leela Soma is our competition judge.
Leela Soma was born in Madras, India and now lives in Glasgow, Scotland. Her poems and short stories have been published in several anthologies and publications. She has published three novels, short stories and two collections of poetry. Her poems have been published in Gutter, Dreich, The Blue Nib, Anthropocene, The Scotsman, Black Bough Poems, The Glasgow Review of Books and many others. She was also nominated for the Pushcart Prize 2020 and was longlisted for the Erbacce Prize 2019. She has been appointed Scriever 2021 for the Federation of Writers, Scotland. Her name has been added to Scottish Poetry Library’s online guide of poets. She is the chair of the Bearsden Writers Some of her work reflects her dual heritage of India and Scotland.
