Competition theme: Autumn Vices
This is the first competition that Autumn Voices has held for a while, and we intend to make writing competitions a more regular feature of our activities. We’ve chosen a poetry competition in honour of National Poetry Day, which is on the first Thursday of October annually. This year it’s on October 1st, which also happens to be the first day the competition opens to entries. The competition will run for the whole month of October, and you can find the entry and eligibility details here. The theme for this poetry competition is ‘Autumn Vices‘ and we heartily encourage your creative escapism in the strange times we live in. Competitions are a great way to get the creative juices going again after a writing hiatus, revisit previously unpublished work or test out new writing forms, plus you might just win a cash prize!
We’re delighted to be able to offer a 1st prize of £100, a second prize of £50, and the writers of two Highly Commended poems will each receive a copy of the Autumn Voices book.
Judge
We are thrilled to have Finola Scott as judge for this Autumn’s poetry competition. Finola is a well-known poet who writes in Scots and English. In 2018 she won the Uist Poetry Competition, the Blue Nib Chapbook Competition and the Dundee Law Competition and was also a runner up in Coast To Coast’s pamphlet competition. Her poetry has been widely published in New Writing Scotland, Gutter, Ink Sweat & Tears and The Lighthouse. Red Squirrel Press published her debut pamphlet in 2019 and she is one of 3 poets featured in Tapsalteerie’s forthcoming anthology, Modren Makars 3. Finola is the current Federation of Writers (Scotland) Makar, and we have managed to wrangle her into working with us fresh off the back of judging their Vernal Equinox Competition.
