Coorie & Hygge – Winning Entry

Throughout December we asked you to send in flash submissions on the topic of Coorie & Hygge. We’re delighted to share the winning entry of Christine Law, aged 66, with you.

Helpful Aide

Living in sheltered housing, I keep away the winter blues by exercising a neighbour’s Jack Russell Terrier dog called Alfie. He is always eager to go out early in the morning to bark at other dogs and chase the odd squirrel in the park. The walking does us both good. Helping others with their shopping and laundry if needed also makes one feel good about oneself.

Occasionally meeting friends in town to chatter over coffee and about the theatre helps to keep the mind active. Wearing warm clothes is of great importance to avoid any winter chills, and Zoom is another way to stay warm and keep in touch with other writers on cold wintry evenings, while learning more about yourself and others.

Congratulations to Christine, and thank you to all the other entrants. Details of our January flash entry is below.

Our monthly flash theme for January is New Year, New Hobbies.

Are you taking up a new hobby, interest or project this year? If so, we’d love you to tell us about it. Our special focus this month is on photography as a new project, so please either send us a recent photograph you’ve taken as part of a new photography hobby, or send us a flash submission (350 words or less) telling us about your new hobby or venture with an accompanying photo. The flash submission can take the form of a poem, short memoir, anecdote or story, but MUST be accompanied by a relevant photo.

Entries are free and close at midnight on January 31st and we’ll choose our favourites from the submissions in early February. The winner will receive a copy of the Poetry of Entanglement book produced by our January bloggers, Tom Langlands and Marianna Armatta, and the runner-up will receive a Poetry Of Entanglement calendar.
