Creative Writing Workshops at Birnam Arts (2023-24)

Got a Story to Tell? Get Writing!

Last year Jane led a series of creative writing sessions at Birnam Art, which culminated in the launch in December of the book Tales of Birnam & Dunkeld (see below). We’re pleased to announce that Jane will be back to run more sessions this autumn. Some sessions will be led by guest authors, including Morag Anderson, this year’s Birnam Book Festival poet-in-residence.

You don’t need to have any creative writing experience, only an interest in the landscape, wildlife, legends and tales from the area. Bring your memories, observations and imagination, and we’ll take it from there.

This is a free funded workshop and includes a light lunch –  spaces must be booked in advance.

Tales of Birnam and Dunkeld (2022)

Tales of Birnam and Dunkeld was an Autumn Voices project, working in partnership with Birnam ArtsBirnam Book Festival and Dunkeld & Birnam Archives.

The lead artist was Birnam-based author Jane Archer. Jane, who previously worked on Autumn Voices’ Third Age Plus Pioneers, ran two blocks of writing workshops at Birnam Arts in summer and autumn 2022. A book featuring writing from these workshops, plus specially commissioned pieces from locally based authors including James Robertson, Linda Cracknell and Tim Turnbull was launched at Birnam Arts in December 2022.

This project was supported by the Year of Stories 2022 Community Stories Fund. This fund is being delivered in partnership with VisitScotland and Museums Galleries Scotland with support from National Lottery Heritage Fund thanks to National Lottery players. Autumn Voices is also grateful to Perth & Kinross Third Sector Interface Mental Health & Wellbeing Fund for financial support.
